Full description

On this 5-hour tour from Avignon you’ll see some of the most important stone monuments in Provence that date back to the Roman period. First on the itinerary is the Pont du Gard, one of best-preserved aqueducts of the Roman Empire. It was built by the Romans in the 1st century to supply the city of Nimes with water. At your own pace, visit Les Baux de Provence, a picturesque medieval village that sits on a rocky spur in the Alpilles Mountains, surrounded by olive groves that produce a well-known olive oil. Admire the well-preserved Roman monument for a photo stop at the Antiques of St Remy de Provence. See sites at the northern edge of the Alpilles that inspired van Gogh’s paintings, including his iconic

Starry Night.

Really enjoyed this half day trip. There were only two of us, and I'm very grateful that it was not cancelled. Lucille was our guide and she was excellent. I found her to be kind, caring, knowledgeable and shared her knowledge of the places we saw, without overloading us with details. And I didnt feel like we were rushed around. An excellent guide.

Ghislain was an amazing guide, taking us through 3 incredibly beautiful places- Pont du Gard, St Remy and Les Baux, with an extra stop added in for us to see the hospital where Van Gogh lived for a year and painted productively. Nice amounts of walking and short drives. He arranged the timing at each site to correspond perfectly with the weather. He shared a wealth of information and understandings (in very clear English). I highly recommend this tour!

The tour is a good choice. The guide and the company have rich experience in the field. The landscape in Provence is very good, of course. I think the only problem is the time. In the introduction it is said that the tour wil last 5h. However, when we go back to Avignon, it is only 18:20, and 40 minutes are lost. The guide does not give us enough time at Les Baux and Pont de Gard, and it seems that she just want to finish the tour as quickly as possible.
