1. From Broome: Windjana Gorge, Tunnel Creek & Boab Prison Tree
Begin your day trip into the Kimberley region with an early morning pick-up in Broome. Travel east over the Willare Bridge, crossing the mighty Fitzroy River. Stop at one of the Kimberley’s most famous landmarks the massive ancient Boab Prison Tree, once used to house convicts. Continue east through the Kimberley Cattle country and journey along the famous Gibb River Road. Arrive at Windjana Gorge and enjoy a scrumptious picnic lunch. The gorge is a renowned freshwater crocodile spotting site. Keep an eye out for wildlife hiding in the Lennard River that runs through Windjana Gorge. Limestone walls rise more than 100 meters and are home to fossils of shells and sea creatures. Afterwards, head to Tunnel Creek, a 750-meter long flooded cavern. Wade through knee to thigh high water and hear the story of Jandamarra. The tunnel features many beautiful formations and is home to a variety of bats, olive pythons and freshwater crocodiles. Enjoy a swim at the end of the tunnel in a waterhole before heading back to afternoon tea. Begin the return journey to Broome as the sun sets. There will be time to stop en-route for dinner (at your own expense). Arrive in Broome at approximately 10:00 PM.
