  • Katla Ice Cave and Super Jeep Tour from Reykjavik/Vik

    1. Katla Ice Cave and Super Jeep Tour from Reykjavik/Vik

Your guide will pick you up in Reykjavik or Vik in a Super Jeep and you’ll soon experience breathtaking views as you drive along the country's spectacular south coast. Along the way you will visit the small town of Vík and then take a turn onto a rural road only accessible by Super Jeep. Stop at Kötlujökull Glacier, where you’ll find a stunning ice cave to explore. Admire the interior of the magnificent ice cave with an experienced guide. Head back to the Super Jeep for the return drive to Reykjavik or Vik. On the way back you'll stop to take in the popular Skógafoss waterfall.

I did not know what to expect from this experience, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself: I liked the fact that we not only did this activity but bookended the day with a visit to both Skogafoss waterfall (MY FAVOURITE PLACE ON EARTH) and Seljandsfoss waterfall. Those were some nice surprises (I didn't know those stops were a part of the package!). I always rent a car when I'm in Iceland but I did enjoy being driven around for a day (was a nice break). The van was super comfortable and I met some lovely people - one of whom I will probably be traveling back to Iceland with next year (I'm from Canada, she's from Germany)! I suggest bringing hiking boots for this adventure - crampons are good for most any shoe but you are on a glacier for part of this experience and so it's better to have the stability of a good boot than not.

What people are saying about Capital Region of Iceland

I loved this trip! We had a wonderful guide, (sorry, I forgot his name but he was from Croatia and it began with V) we left from reykjavik and he was very informative with lots of info about the area! He was extremely friendly and very helpful, a great guide! The trip itself was lovely, it was a lot easier than I thought it would be and the scenery is absolutely beautiful. If you come to Iceland during the warmer months this is absolutely a place you need to go! The hot springs were very nice, just be aware the changing area is a several meters from the river so you will have to plan how to move. Also, I find with this website/tour operator the pick up times are extremely confusing as they have different times noted down. Either the tour need to specify this or be prepared to get there early because it’s really confusing. This is the only negative, other than that, the tour was amazing!

Can’t recommend this hike more - it was a unique and wonderful way to experience another part of Iceland. Yes, the tour is a pricey one but you get your money’s worth from taking in spectacular scenery and getting some good exercise as well. The weather is very changeable, however, so it is definitely worth gearing up properly and mentally preparing yourself for rain, wind, snow and the cold. Vjeran was our guide and he was definitely a key part why our hike was so fantastic - he is to be commended for his knowledge of the area, his energy and his skills (including photography)!
