Learn about the fortifications built by the Romans. Cross the main street, Rue Cross Mayrevieille to the castle. Discover the museum inside the castle and develop a better understanding of the Trencavel family that defended the Cathars during the Albigensian Crusade.  Walk along the top of the wall, crossing both medieval and Roman towers as you head towards the church. Hear an explanation (in English, French or Italian) about the architecture of the Gothic church and see the beautiful stained glass windows, built between the 13th and 16th centuries. Walk through the streets of the ancient religious quarter and learn about the inquisition in Carcassonne and Toulouse.

Our guide Nathalie was great, very friendly. She takes the time to explain and rehearse if necessary. I, who did not like history lessons, and well there I was very attentive. We went on July 15th and it was very crowded which made the visit a bit choppy as we had to wait for the families to pass so that our guide could start the explanations otherwise it was impossible to hear something with the cries of children. The visit lasted about 2 hours but it seemed short to us because we were absorbed by the history of the city. We did not visit the castle for lack of time and we regret it. Because I think it should be done to complete the visit well. Remember to wear adequate shoes and no heels because the streets are made of cobblestones and are sometimes slippery.
