Upon entry, wander through the reserve at your leisure and explore the 3 sections of the reserve featuring a variety of native and non-native species. Explore the farmyard section and meet domesticated animals such as alpacas, zebus, kune kune pigs, and llamas. Stroll through the New Zealand section and discover a variety of rare native species. See the world's only alpine parrot, the kea. Spot the tuatara, a relation of lizards that has fascinating evolutionary biology dating back to the Triassic era. See the takahe, which is one of the rarest birds in the world. Discover exotic species of the zoo/exotics section. See the world's largest rodent, the capybara, native to the Amazon Rainforest. Observe the playful Siamang gibbons and capuchin monkeys. See the emus and wallabies, native to Australia. In the afternoon, join a passionate guide for a 45-minute guided tour. Learn about the challenges facing New Zealand's unique wildlife. Willowbank Wildlife Reserve, 60 Hussey Road, Northwood, Christchurch, New Zealand. There is plenty of free off-street parking, with two accessible car parks close to the main building for vehicles displaying a current mobility parking permit. You can take the public bus number 107 from Northlands Shopping Mall in Papanui, which stops outside Willowbank.

  • Food for hand feeding can be purchased for a small cost on the day for the farm animals, wild eels, and birds as you wander the grounds
  • Children aged 15 years and under must be accompanied by a paying adult

  • Open daily from 9:30 AM until 5:00 PM May to September and 7:00 PM October to April; onsite cafe and bar is open from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM daily
