Hobart: Port Arthur and Lavender Farm Tour

1. Hobart: Port Arthur and Lavender Farm Tour

Departing early from Hobart, you will drive directly to the stunning Tasman Peninsula. This area has amazing history, fascinating stories and spectacular scenery, and is also home to Australia’s highest sea cliffs. You will enjoy the panoramic views of the area from Pirates Bay Lookout, which provides a great vantage point of the surrounding area. Passing through Eaglehawk Neck and “The Dogline”, your guide will share with you some truly amazing history and stories of the area. You will then begin one of Tasmania’s “great short walks”, following a spectacular track of around 2 kilometers along the Waterfall Bay cliff top. From there you will be dropped off for a short visit to the Port Arthur Lavender Farm, where you will enjoy a self-guided wander around the Lavender grounds and can enjoy free samples of the local handmade lavender chocolates and lavender fudge. You will then enter the Port Arthur Historic Site, where you will find a wealth of information and history which you can discover throughout your 3 hours on site. Your entry includes a complimentary harbor cruise around the Isle of the Dead, as well as a guided walking tour with one of the site’s expert guides. On your return to Hobart, make a stop at the historical village of Richmond. Moving along, you will arrive to the historic Richmond Village in the late afternoon. There you can meander the streets, stop for a coffee, visit the Lolly Shop, and walk across Australia’s oldest bridge which is still in use: a convict-built sandstone bridge (which is reportedly haunted). Finally, before you re-enter Hobart, you will stop for a fabulous view across the city from a local lookout, a picturesque way to return to the city. You will then be dropped off back at your Hobart City accommodation at around 6:00 PM.

A long day of adventures, jam-packed with things to see and do, a mix of natural wonders and the iconic Port Arthur and surrounds. It’s a long journey but there are lots of short stops such as the Lavender Farm, nature walks, Richmond, photo ops etc to stretch the legs. The cliff top walk is breathtaking views and lovely refreshing natural forest- just right 30 mins length for all. If the Lavender isn’t in season, it’s a great little stop. But Port Arthur is the main attraction, with knowledgeable guides, incredible and quite tragic site, and a little Harbour Cruise to the Isle of the Dead. Port Arthur is a true MUST SEE in Hobart if you want to understand how this city was shaped by the convict trade. Every sandstone building you see in the region after this will have you wondering ‘did a poor convict make these bricks?’ This tour has a little something for everyone. This would be a REALLY smashing tour if we’d had just a little more light in the day.

A must do in Hobart made even more special by the excellent guides. I loved it from start to finish. Tasman Arch and Devils Kitchen, the Port Arthur colony, the harbour cruise were all highlights. Amazing.

Port Aruther is a great place. Lots of history, activities and fun. Loved the cruise. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and very nice. Finishing the tour with visiting Richmond was a hit.

Jarrod was a wonderful guide. We saw more of the region than we expected and the small group made it feel personalised and enjoyable. Thanks for a wonderful day.

Jarrod our guide was fantastic and the tour awesome. I would without hesitation recommend this small group tour.
