It is a remarkable archeological site - hard to wrap my head around how large and ornate the original complex was. I liked the small group size and the guide was excellent. There was a short movie and a virtual reality portion that greatly helped in filling in the history and provide a sense of what the original above ground domus aurea of Nero was like. Would recommend.

This was one of the best tours we went on in Rome. I cannot recommend it enough, we had Christina as our tour guide. We had a mix up with the booking and the tour was double booked. But our guide came from the coliseum and gave a tour to remember. The virtual reality part was by far breathtaking and beyond unbelievable, so good I was trying to book it straight afterwards to see it all again. It’s a rich piece of history that not only is still a work in progress that when you buy a ticket a part of that money goes towards further excavation on the entire domus.

A very friendly lady led our group. She explained everything very well and in a way that was easy to understand. There were also children and they really enjoyed the tour. The way she told it, you could imagine everything exactly. She was also able to correct old historical images about the "evil" Nero.
