  • Golden Circle and Fontana Wellness Tour from Reykjavik

    1. Golden Circle and Fontana Wellness Tour from Reykjavik

Depart Reykjavik for a full-day coach tour of Iceland’s Golden Circle and experience the geothermal wilderness up-close. Depart the city center and drive to the Geysir Geothermal Area to see springs of spouting spring water and the most active geyser Iceland at Strokkur. Continue to Gullfoss to stand next to an amazing waterfall. Watch the vast quantities of water tumble violently into a deep, meandering gorge. Encounter a cross-section of Iceland's natural wonders and geological phenomena at Thingvellir National Park. Then, go to the natural steam baths at Fontana. Originally built in the 1920s, Fontana was little more than a shack with 2 compartments built above the hot spring that bubbles and gurgles below ground. Today, a modern complex invites you to relax in various hot tubs and steam baths that are naturally heated by hot springs. Enjoy some traditional rye bread baked in hot ...

  • From Reykjavik: Golden Circle and Fontana Geothermal Baths

    2. From Reykjavik: Golden Circle and Fontana Geothermal Baths

After boarding your transportation in Reykjavik, make your way to Thingvellir National Park. Once there, explore a UNESCO World Heritage site where the tectonic plates of North America and Eurasia are pulling apart and creating a rift valley with dramatic lava rock formations. It's also the site where Iceland's first parliament was founded, more than 1000 years ago. From Thingvellir, move on to Laugarvatn where you can take a soak in the comfortably warm pools. For almost a century, locals in the community of Laugarvatn have been enjoying the healing powers of natural steam from a geothermal field at the edge of the lake. Built over this geothermal area, the Laugarvatn Fontana wellness center features geothermal steam rooms, hot pools, and outdoor mineral baths, as well as a fantastic view over the lake. You'll also find Fontana café, which offers a nice selection of healthy and locall...

    3. Reykjavik: Warm Baths and Cool Lights with Dinner Buffet

Departing from Reykjavik, drive through the UNESCO-listed Thingvellir National Park to arrive to Laugarvatn Fontana Spa, where you can nourish both your body and soul. Upon arrival, grab something to eat from the dinner buffet and then head into the geothermal baths for a cozy evening. Fontana Spa is equipped with three steam rooms built over a natural hot spring as well as a traditional sauna with three hot pools. The more adventurous can even take a dip in Laugarvatn Lake (when available) to cool down between the steam baths and sauna.  The steam temperatures range from 104°F to 122°F, depending on the hot springs and the weather. The steam rooms offer a unique experience, as you can smell the boiling water underneath the grids of the floor.  The traditional sauna has a lower humidity than the steam rooms but a higher temperature, between 176°F and 194°F. The three connected outdoor...

Beautiful weather; hit the tourist spots

A great tour in terms of the places visited, however Reykjavik excursions may want to invest in some staff training, as the guide was unnecessarily punitive and condescending towards customers she perceived having 'broken rules'.

Spa was in middle of day not end as advertised

Really lovely day, but spa was in the middle of the day so we reached thingvellir at dusk - would rather have seen it in light and spent more time. Fontana is small but less crowded and has a beautiful lake view

The "Fontana" bath is one of the most beautiful and best in Iceland! In addition, the famous bread is baked "live" in the hot ground and you can taste it.

Lovely small group our guide was really good and knowledgeable nice quiet spa great day!

Spectacular. enjoyable.

What can be better than luxuriating in a hot spa with the snow falling on you?
