Full description
Get a comprehensive introduction to New York’s Metropolitan Museum on a 3-hour small group tour that traverses 5 continents and 5,000 years of art. Travel back to Ancient Egypt at the Temple of Dendur, and learn how it was brought to the museum with the support of Jackie Onassis. Learn about Egyptian burial traditions at Pernod’s Tomb, hear about the Rockefeller who came to an abrupt end collecting beast poles in New Guinea, and see a fully intact Roman ruin from Pompeii. Marvel at paintings by Raphael, Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Vermeer, and Picasso, hearing about the strange lives of these unusual artists along the way. Look at “Madame X” by John Singer Sargent, and discover why it caused such an outrage upon its release in Paris. You will also see one of the most recognizable paintings in the US at “Washington Crossing the Delaware” by German American artist Emanuel Gottlieb Leutze. Your guide is an expert art historian who is passionate about the art on display, providing fascinating anecdotes instead of boring facts and figures. In addition, you’ll have access to the Met’s exclusive rooftop terrace when it's open (May to October). Enjoy panoramic views over Central Park and beyond as your guide tells you about the surrounding city and points out where Jackie Onassis once lived, and which celebrities now have their homes on the park perimeter. Your pre-reserved ticket includes a museum donation, so you won’t have to wait in long access lines, or shell out for the suggested donation once inside

The guide was excellent. Informed us of many of the art works at the museum. She also covered many areas in the museum that we were not aware of. This tour was one of the best we have been on. Well worth the price, which also included the admission to the museum if you wanted to go in after the tour.

This was an absolute HIGHLIGHT of our trip to New York City. The Met is so overwhelming - in the best possible ways - but having an art history teacher to guide us through it was incredible. The way he tied pieces together, explained the context of the art, and pointed out subtle details made our trip to The Met that much better.

Katie was excellent! We were a group of 10 adults and my 12 year old granddaughter and the 3+ hour tour could not have been better. The content, timing, humor and comfort were priceless. Seeds of excitement to return and learn were planted in a 12 year old! Thank you, Katie.
