2-Hour Private Walking Tour of Carcassonne

4. 2-Hour Private Walking Tour of Carcassonne

The walled city of Carcassonne in Languedoc is world renowned as a spectacular fortified medieval city. But this rocky spur has been occupied since the 6th-Century BC, first as a Gallic settlement and later as a fortified Roman city. The Visigoths seized the city in the 5th-Century, and were followed by the Saracens, who remained in control for a mere 30 years before the Francs expelled them. Restored by Viollet-le-Duc in the 19th-Century, the city fortress was consecrated in 1997 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, while the former military enclosure of the lower town’s "La Bastide Saint-Louis" is listed as a conservation area. Take a 2-hour private walking tour, personalized to your own schedule and rhythm, visiting the sights you would like to visit. Explore medieval architecture and discover the rich culture that has inspired poets and writers, including William Faulkner. The city is divided into 2 parts; the town and the famous Cité de Carcassonne. Typically we pay more attention to the Cité, but if you would like to visit the town the tour can be customized to suit. Discover the castle and ramparts at the heart of the medieval city; explore the Cathedral and the Basilica of Saint Nazaire; and visit la porte Narbonnaise, which was the principal entrance to the Cité. A dream like destination with a romantic ambience, the tour is tailor-made to enchant you.

Here you can visit the caves and see the original art. Les Eyzies is also home to the National Prehistoric Museum. You also have the option of visiting Sarlat-la-Canéda, one of the most attractive and alluring medieval towns in south-western France. Its town center of impeccably restored stone buildings – now a pedestrian zone – is perhaps the most representative of 14th century France. Another castle to visit is the Château des Milandes, once the home of the Josephine Baker, an American dancer, singer, and actress who found fame in her adopted homeland of France. Josephine Baker and her husband renovated this beautiful castle, installing central heating, electricity, and running water. What people are saying about Occitanie

The activity consists of a tour of the vineyards and the winery, where we learn a little about its history. Then, we tasted 3 wines: a white and two reds. When booking the language options were French or English, but when we arrived at the winery one of the hostesses spoke in Spanish, so we could choose that language :) The place is incredible and the attention is excellent. It lasted approx. 40 'and we pay € 10 per person. It was a wonderful experience. We highly recommend !!

Punctual guide, smiling (even with the mask), masters the subject of the city. Is available with children (sweet and very patient). Interesting tour of the city. Thank you very much to Nathalie for these 2 hours of discoveries and knowledge on part of the history of our country. “It was nice to meet you! ❤️” signed our daughter.

A lovely introduction to the vineyard experience. We saw the vats and barrels of wine. We were informed about the process. Then we were able to taste four wines with an expert guide who had taken us through the whole tour. I highly recommend this experience.

nice guide! nice tour and tasting of a good product: we recommend! an option on a longer and wilder circuit would be a plus.

No bike that day due to rain but the conversion to a 4x4 ride with Paul was great
