Full description
If you really want to explore Arizona's rugged beauty, you need a vehicle up to the task. Come along on our military M-1009 jeep and see it all. The trail you'll follow in the heart of Tonto National Forest passes through the majestic Superstition and 4 Peaks mountain ranges and into the Sonoran Desert. Beautiful views of Saguaro Lake are part of the package. The national forest sprawls over almost 3 million acres but borders Phoenix and Native American reservations. The landscape varies from cactus-studded desert to pine-forested mountains that climb up 7,900 feet. Our expert 4x4 drivers and guides know how to handle this difficult, changing terrain and will tell you all about the unusual plant and animal life that inhabit this unique ecosystem. To help preserve it, we use bio-diesel to power all our vehicles. Special modifications that increase off-road ability while minimizing the bumping around mean you can do more and see more than you could any other way. These include a military rear Gov-Lock system, the heaviest springs available for the chassis and a 10-bolt rear-axle unit. The M-1009 is based on a Chevrolet Blazer platform but has a wider frame to increase stability. You might get to try out its ability to ford streams almost 2 feet deep. Up to 10 guests can fit in each vehicle.

The guide, Cactus Jack, was very knowledgeable about the desert, the different types of cactuses, the wildlife, what different desert plants are used for, and even had us taste a cactus. He was also very funny and overall a great guy. The ride was covered, so we were kept out of the sun, but the sides were open so that we could see everything.
