Full description

Enjoy an afternoon or evening hike in Geldingadalur Valley, where eruptions over the past two years have transformed the landscape. Learn about the history of volcanoes in the area as well as an introduction to the underlying science from your expert guide.

Get picked up in Reykjavík and set out on a scenic drive surrounded by breathtaking views towards the Fagradalsfjall Volcano, Meradalir, and Geldingadallur Valley.

Once at the valley, put on your hiking gear and head towards the volcano to hopefully see some lava flowing. The eruption has stopped in recent days, but there was flowing lava here as recently as August 20th, 2022. Bring snacks along with you and enjoy them while you gaze upon this natural wonder.

Afterward, as you drive along the peninsula, your guide will fill you in on the history of volcanos in the area, many long-dormant, now covered by soft green lava moss.

Breath-taking hike! It was an incredible experience to see the new lava fields which are still steaming from the eruption. The hike is fairly steep in the first half but then levelled out and became much more manageable. We hike regularly so were well prepared; the organizer provided lots of helpful information prior to the trip about what to expect and what to pack. Some beginner hikers might find it challenging but it does get much easier after the initial climb and it is well worth it to see the volcanic crater. Our tour guide, Tony, was fantastic! He clearly loves the Icelandic landscape and shared his passion for the outdoors with us! We absolutely loved this tour and highly recommend it, but strongly recommend reading all the information provided before and after your booking. The recommended kit list/clothing is essential for the hike!

The tour we went on was a completely different tour to what was booked, this was change less than 24 hours before we went. The tour guide was the one who made it really enjoyable, loads more sites and destinations than we thought so it did turn out better in the end.

Our tour guide Tom was amazing! The actual tour itself was amazing. The reason it is not 5 stars is because the day before the tour they cancelled the original tour we want and did a whole day tour when actually we were not interested in looking at lighthouses or bridges so second half of it felt like a waste of time. It seems like this was pre planned as the next day some other tourists said that the provider cancelled again and asked for a whole day tour. This is not okay as it’s not value for money. It needs to be informed days earlier than the evening before. In audition they sent an email on what to wear and bring at midnight when the tour began at 8am literally 8 hours later, this is difficult for tourists like myself who can’t go and buy something if I needed to in terms of clothing.
