Full description
The eruption in AD 79 spelled a fiery end for Pompeii, but the catastrophe also almost entirely preserved the port city under layers of Volcanic ash. Thousands of years later, you can still explore the eerie streets and step inside homes, bathhouses, and fast-food places. You’ll travel from Rome to Pompeii in an air-conditioned private coach, accompanied all the way by your expert tour coordinator. Benefit from skip-the-line entry and enjoy a self-guided visit around the ancient city which paints a vivid picture of life in final days before the eruption. Throughout the ruins, you’ll come across death casts: plaster recreations of unfortunate citizens preserved by the superheated volcanic ash. After visiting Pompeii, the coach will take you up the slope of Mt. Vesuvius (from April to mid-November), one of Europe’s few active volcanoes located in the Vesuvius National Park. From here, take a short hike up to the steaming crater for stunning views of Capri and Sorrento. During the winter season between November and March, Mt. Vesuvius is closed, so your tour will follow the coastline and take you to the city of Naples, where you can explore the iconic Castle Nuovo, the famous art deco Umberto I Gallery, or simply wander around the monumental Plebiscito Square.

It was an incredible experience, it was definitely worth it! We met our guide Chiara at 7:30 am in Piazza del Popolo and then took the bus. During the trip Chiara explained us something about the history of Roma, Pompei and Vesuvio, it was interesting. Once in Pompei we visited alone the old city, ate something there, and then met again with the guide and the other companions. We went after that direction Monte Vesuvio, where our bus stopped, and we had to walk 20 minutes in order to reach the top, from where we could admire Napoli and the sea too. Then we returned to Rome. I definitely recommend this tour if you are in Rome!

This was a great day trip from Rome. Pompeii was fascinating and seeing the crater after climbing Mount Vesuvius was a real thrill. Our tour guide Robert made the trip. He brought Pompeii to life before we ever arrived, and I was delighted that traffic delayed our return to Rome because he told us lots more stories and gave us tips on what and where to eat.

The full day was organized and planned very well. Andrea was entertaining and explained a lot of interesting history. He guided everyone competently, made time for questions and gave the group the right amount of free time. The bus driver also did an excellent job. I would highly recommend this excursion to anyone.
