Our guide Tom guided us very well and was able to tell a lot of interesting things about glaciers and ice formation. We were brought very close to the glacier by jeep. The large groups had to park much further in front and had to walk a correspondingly long way to the glacier.

Excursion of 3 hours in total, 2 hours are on the route through the glacier and the other hour of explanation, preparation, going and returning to the site. The route is very bearable and is not complicated. We did it in August and although it was not sunny, it was a good day and we were not cold (trekking clothes and windbreaker with a fleece lining underneath).

Walking out on the glacier was fascinating. We learned so much about the life cycle of glaciers, and got to see how dynamic the environment is on and in the ice. Our guide had a trusty 4 x 4 she was able to drive further in than some of the tour buses, which meant more time out walking, and seemed to know many of the other guides out on the ice. She was friendly and knowledgeable, and made us feel safe. Overall it is not strenuous and is a nice peek at an amazing natural wonder that covers a significant percentage of Iceland!
