Venice: Traveling Opera in a Historic Palace on Grand Canal

3. Venice: Traveling Opera in a Historic Palace on Grand Canal

Experience Italian Opera in one of the most important Venetian-Gothic style palaces in Venice, Palazzo Barbarigo-Minotto. Within this historical venue, an innovative approach to opera has been conceived, with a formula that focuses on the interaction between the singers, the musicians, and the audience. This gives spectators the feeling of living Opera ‘from the inside’. This sensation is amplified by the clever 360-degree use of the ‘stage’ and by having the guests move through 3 different rooms within the Palazzo, one for each act of the show. The whole setting changes, not just the background. Reviving a tradition dating back to the late 1800s, this reimagining is brought to life by some of the finest lyrical voices, accompanied by a talented small group of strings and a piano: a virtuoso ensemble who performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world. Opera offered: • La Traviata - Melodrama in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi (Mon - Tue - Thu - Sat) • Il Barbiere di Siviglia - Light-hearted melodrama in two acts by Gioachino Rossini (Wed - Sun) • Rigoletto - Intense drama about love and vengeance by Giuseppe Verdi (Fri)

Amazing experience, well worth it. It is hot inside but don't let that put you off. Don't wait for anyone outside just show your voucher at the door and they will let you in. Nice bar next to the church for a pre concert drink so arrive early in order to get a good seat. You probably need to be in at least 40 min before to get a good seat. Enjoy, we did

Certainly a very different experience to a normal opera, with only a cast of three on Verdi’s La Traviata it is a shorter version. Overall though this doesn’t distract from some very great performances & it’s literally with the cast a few feet from you in some of the rooms. Definitely I will go again in my next visit, hopefully to catch Rigoletto

Fantastic setting and experience, you really feel the power and emotion of the story being told as you are so close to the performers. It was mine and my wife's first operatic experience and we loved it. I think this should be on your must do list of things to do in Venice. Bravo :-)

It was a a very enjoyable evening the opera was Magnificent set in a beautiful old building each act was set in a different room which made the performance a much more interesting experience all in all a great evening out and a bonus of a glass of Prosecco.

Beautiful concert and setting! Highly recommend for classical music fans (especially those of Vivaldi / Baroque music)
