Venice: Traveling Opera in a Historic Palace on Grand Canal

3. Venice: Traveling Opera in a Historic Palace on Grand Canal

Experience Italian Opera in one of the most important Venetian-Gothic style palaces in Venice, Palazzo Barbarigo-Minotto. Within this historical venue, an innovative approach to opera has been conceived, with a formula that focuses on the interaction between the singers, the musicians, and the audience. This gives spectators the feeling of living Opera ‘from the inside’. This sensation is amplified by the clever 360-degree use of the ‘stage’ and by having the guests move through 3 different rooms within the Palazzo, one for each act of the show. The whole setting changes, not just the background. Reviving a tradition dating back to the late 1800s, this reimagining is brought to life by some of the finest lyrical voices, accompanied by a talented small group of strings and a piano: a virtuoso ensemble who performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world. Opera offered: • La Traviata - Melodrama in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi (Mon - Tue - Thu - Sat) • Il Barbiere di Siviglia - Light-hearted melodrama in two acts by Gioachino Rossini (Wed - Sun) • Rigoletto - Intense drama about love and vengeance by Giuseppe Verdi (Fri)

What people are saying about Venice

Wonderful trip! We were in a group of just 8 so it was very intimate and we all got to know each other. Our guide Sebastian had a lot of knowledge about Prosecco, but also shared a lot of information about the local areas history and culture as a bonus! We went to 2 wineries. In the first we visited the beautiful vineyard with stunning views and got to learn about the growing process. In the second we learned about the process of making Prosecco. Both owners were very welcoming and passionate about their work and loved to share their knowledge with us! And of course we got to taste a lot of Prosecco. Between the two wineries we drove through the little Prosecco villages with spectacular views over the hills covered with vineyards. If you are in Venice I would highly recommend this trip! We had a wonderful day and learned a lot about Prosecco and the region. Only downside is that I'm now a Prosecco snob.

This was a great experience. My girlfriend's idea, and I'm not typically into things like this and even not speaking Italian, this was thoroughly enjoyable. It's a very personal type of opera and you will be sitting very close to others. The seating is FCFS for each room so if you are able to get ahead of everyone else you will have the best seats. Depending who you are behind it may be a bit difficult to see.

This was by far the BEST experience we had in Venice. We were in someone's house that was built in the 1930s with old world bookcases and decor. The chefs were super fun and light hearted, making the experience so enjoyable. We were there for 5 hours and it went by so fast. We were traveling with 2 fifteen year olds and they absolutely loved it! Don't miss out - book this experience NOW!!

Sylvie was an excellent guide, very knowledgeable and very pleasant. We would highly recommend her.

Fantastic way to get from the airport to the hotel.
