Embark on a scenic cruise along the north coast of Granite Island. Victor Harbour is located on the south coast of the Fleurieu Peninsula of South Australia, about 90 minutes and 80 km south of the center of Adelaide. Pass the route of the old horse-drawn tramway and see the historic Screwpile Jetty as you venture around the breakwater and into the open ocean. Continue for 5 minutes to arrive at Seal Island (also known as "Seal Rock"), where New Zealand fur seals and Australian sea lions can be seen basking in the sun. Delight to the sight of the seals that often swim to the stationary boat for a good look at the passengers!  Keep a lookout for other wildlife, including petrels, shearwaters and cormorants, on or around Seal Island. You might even spot some common or bottlenose dolphins that are often in the vicinity and sometimes race the boat. After 15 minutes of wildlife viewing at Seal Island and around Wright Island, cruise back to the Granite Island Causeway at Victor Harbour and disembark.

Get picked up from your accommodation in Glenelg at 9 AM or Adelaide at 9:20 – 9:30 AM for a full day of sightseeing around the gorgeous Fleurieu Peninsula.  Enjoy the scenic drive from Adelaide through the Adelaide Hills before arriving in the historic German village of Hanhdorf. Treat yourself to morning tea at The Haus, visit the Antique Clock Museum, or shop around in the village's boutique stores. Travel on to the old paddle steamer port of Goolwa for a stroll along the beach where the Murray River meets the sea. Make a short stopover at South Australia's greatest surfing beach before continuing on to Victor Harbor. Keep your eyes peeled for whales as you pass Basham Beach during whale season.  Next, explore the seaside town of Victor Harbor where you can visit the Whale Center and Museum. Take advantage of the chance to visit Granite Island and check out the fairy penguins or ride the famous horse-drawn tram. Purchase lunch from one of the many quaint restaurants and pubs. Your last stop of the day will be McLaren Vale, one of Australia's oldest and finest olive, wine, and almond-growing regions. Taste some of the area's best wines, purchase some locally-grown, homemade delicacies before returning back to your accommodation at around 5:30 PM.

Discover Kangaroo Island and enjoy an abundance of wildlife as you take in spectacular scenery. Visit the Remarkable Rocks, Pennington Bay, Weirs Cove, and other areas before spotting fur seals, koalas, and echidnas. After meeting the guide make your way to Flinders Chase National Park to visit the Remarkable Rocks, Weirs Cove, and Admirals Arch. From there you will head to Seal Bay where you can enjoy a boardwalk tour and watch the seals frolicking on the beach. You will spot many different kinds of wildlife, including kangaroos, koalas, and echidnas. See fur seals at Seal Bay and also challenge yourself and try to spot all the different bird species.

During this must-do walking tour of Victor Harbor, you will hear about early settler life, the development of the Port, the unique heritage transportation that still runs today, and how Victor Harbor grew into the popular tourist town we now enjoy. Your local guide will walk you through the old parts of town and highlight the wonderful heritage-listed buildings. While passing through, you will hear about the important historical events of the town and stories of key characters that influenced the development of Victor Harbor. Our tour starts at the beginning of the Granite Island Causeway where we will walk along the causeway and see the islands of Encounter Bay and hear about the meeting of Captains Flinders and Baudin. We will then start walking along the Encounter walkway and hear about early European settlement and the influence of whaling as South Australia's first commercial export. A short walk to our first heritage buildings the Newland Memorial Church and church Hall. Here we stop and hear stories about key settler, the challenges of settler life and the contribution made to the towns development. We head to Warland Reserve. Here we stop to see delightful ironstone and blue stone heritage buildings and the role with transportation, and the port, and hear stories of early settler life. Next stop Railway Terrace, this delightful historical precinct has lots of hidden stories that will be revealed. Export of goods down the river Murray slowed and a new industry of tourism began. We look at some of the old hotels and hear and see the grand holiday residences that were built in the late 19th century. Finally, your will discover the early cultural development of the town. On this tour, you will hear about the local maritime history, which includes the early and successful whaling industry around the Bluff and Granite Island. Learn about the stories of the early fishing families and learn how a number of shipwrecks in Encounter Bay persuaded the colony administrators that it would not be a suitable capital city for South Australia. Together with your local guide enjoy an easy stroll along the coast and to out-of-the-way places around the streets of Yilki, which is four kilometres from Victor Harbor. The word Yilki is an Aboriginal word meaning place by the sea. The tour is an easy walk along the town’s pavements. If you have any mobility concerns, please get in touch with us. We start the tour on the Encounter Bay bike/walkway and hear about the whales that continue to visit the Bay but also the history of early whaling and its' importance as a commercial export for South Australia. We then cross the road and have a refreshment at the Yilki Store where you will hear much more about the early whaling industry and the colourful characters at this time associated with whaling. The first European settlers other than the whalers, made Yilki their home. We explore the history of one of the first group of settlers including the Newlands. We set off walking around the streets, whose names are those of the early settlers and head to the Tabernacle cemetery where we hear more about the original church and cemetery. We then head off to see a heritage listed house belonging to one of the founding fishing families, and hear more about the contribution of this family to the area. We pass the Yilki Uniting church and continue on to the Fountain Inn. Here we stop and hear about this as one of the early inns in South Australia, and a local ghost story. Finally we move back towards the Yilki store where we started. We look at the site of one of the shipwrecks in the Bay and hear more about these and the influence on changing the course of history in South Australia.
