Immerse yourself in Dutch culture on this day trip from Amsterdam with a guide offering anecdotes about each stop, including the colorful wooden houses of Volendam, the windmills of Zaanse Schans, a traditional clog shop, a cheese farm with tasting included, and the waterways of Giethoorn.  Begin with a trip to the enchanting village of Giethoorn in the north of the Netherlands for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The village is notable for its many canals and complete lack of roads. You will explore this fairy tale village, where less than 3,000 people live, throughout a 1-hour guided boat tour. Explore the preserved village on foot, and see how each farmhouse is built on a small man-made island. Wander the narrow footpaths to discover hundreds of bridges, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the village. Your trip will continue to the village of Volendam, where you can admire brightly painted wooden houses and see locals wearing their colorful regional attire. Your guide will take you on a short walk through the Volendam harbor, which has been one of the most popular tourist attractions in the village since 1875. This is a great place to pick up souvenirs and gifts for those at home or for yourself, and to have photos taken in traditional Dutch costume in one of many photo studios of the village. Your last destination is to explore the most picturesque traditional 17th-century Zaanse Schans village which contains houses and a collection of beautifully preserved windmills from the nation’s industrial heritage. In Zaanse Schans village you can stroll past the charming greenhouses and visit a factory where the clogs popular in this part of the country are made. There’s also nothing more Dutch than cheese, and whilst there you can try some at the Catharina Hoeve Farm where you will also learn about its production.

What people are saying about Zaandam

It was a beautiful experience. I’d book it once more hehe We had Alejandro & Silvia as our guides and they were really funny and professional. We had our 1st stop at a windmill in Zaanse Schans (where we were explained how it basically works - and blimey it was still working and producing peanut oil). Then we reached Marken where we went to a clog factory and got a very entertaining and enthusiastic presentation of how clogs are made. Then away we went via a ferryboat to Volendam where we had time to walk around, eat and witness a great live session on how gouda cheese it being made. We also bought some. It’s delicious (especially if you are a cheese lover). We also had the chance to find out more about the history of the stroopwafels. It was a very pleasant day and we were very lucky because the weather was our friend. We didn’t feel rushed, but maybe a bit more time in Marken (10-15 min more) would be the perfect touch. Other than that, it was really great.

We had an extra day in Amsterdam and wanted to see outside the city. This tour was reasonably priced and well run. It did actually leave before the assigned time so don't be late. The windmill town and the boat town were both beautiful.

This was an action packed tour that was full of interesting and diverse activities. There were opportunities to “do our own thing” as well as being guided at the three main destinations.

The tour was very well organised and punctual with a lot to see and do Guides and driver were superb and caring Really enjoyed it

it was a tour for me and my friends. I can recommend it.
